Low-sugar protein bars
"Low sugar" protein bars taste like a chocolate bar, but with little sugar and about 15 to 20 g of protein. They are our best-selling bars: an indulgent snack that easily fits into a balanced diet, even when cutting.
The must-haves: Barebells Protein Bar and Soft Protein Bar, Grenade Carb Killa, Quest bars, products from Nanosupps, All Stars, BioTech USA, Inlead and Body Attack, as well as the protein versions of Mars. To reduce sugar, manufacturers often use polyols (maltitol, erythritol) and sweeteners: excessive consumption of polyols may produce laxative effects, so it is best not to exceed one or two bars a day.
Most are sold individually or in boxes of 12, which are better value. Prefer savoury? Our comparison of protein chips helps you choose. And for a light shake on the side, see our whey isolate range.
Frequently asked questions
Does "low sugar" mean sugar-free?
No: the bar contains little sugar, but not necessarily zero. The nutrition table on each product page shows the exact amount.
Why do these bars contain maltitol?
Maltitol and other polyols replace part of the sugar. Excessive consumption may produce laxative effects: one or two bars a day is plenty.
Can I eat them while dieting?
Yes, instead of a sweeter snack, counting its calories in your day. It does not replace a meal.
